After a scorching weekend, we are back into another trading week. Last week saw some important influx of data released
The British Pound retreated from Mondays high as UK industrial output unexpectedly fell in February. Non-farm payroll came with highly disappointing figures with the US adding 98,000 new non-farm jobs in March, versus 174,000 expected.
This was the fewest since last May and well below the forecast for jobs growth with lower temperatures and winter storms said to be the main catalyst.
Market participants were also focused on the Trump-Xi meeting which was mostly seen as positive. However, as expected, nothing concrete was discussed or planned. Although it is a four-day week, volatility is expected as participants realign their expectations after the nonfarm payrolls data.
Today is a quiet day for the UK, but, CPI data due to be released tomorrow is expected to bring good news to cable. Across the channel, US inflation and retail sales numbers will be released today.
